Story

We are all Armed Forces Veterans, Keith Clark, Spencer Drain , Steve Vaughan, Army. Mark Cozy Powell, Royal Navy (who we speak to sometimes despite the fact he never stops telling us, he was in the senior service). Anyone who knows us, will already know we are committed to supporting local charities and doing what is needed to help others. We are preparing to do our best in this charity cycle ride in the hope we can raise more money to donate to very deserving people. Your help, generosity and support will be greatly appreciated which will motivate us during our four day cycle ride from Birmingham Bull Ring to Havant Ex-servicemens Club near Portsmouth.
The chosen route will take us through Stratford upon Avon, Oxford, Basingstoke and then Havant. 180 miles of country lanes.
We have cycled together for a little while but the longest ride we have done is only 25 miles. We will need to do twice this for 4 consecutive days.
Some of us have first-hand experience of the effects of cancer and the vast amount of support needed at such a terrible time. We wanted to do something to say thank you to the specialist nurses, but not directly through the main charity which we all support anyway. We want to be able to give financial support to help enhance their working lives directly. Unfortunately due to circumstances, Spencer will only be riding the last leg from Basingstoke.
Cancer remains the leading cause of death in the UK, and a growing and ageing population means it continues to rise at an alarming rate. By 2035, the number of new cancer cases is projected to rise to over half a million a year. Cancer information nurse specialists can talk you through information about your diagnosis and treatment. They will help you understand what to expect from your diagnosis and share key information to help you manage symptoms and side effects.
One thing you notice about these specialist nurses is that they are there when you need them and will often stay on long after their shift has ended to support a patient or help a loved one.
Thank you to everyone who donated to this worthy cause. Spencer, Steve, Keith and Cosy are all very grateful indeed. The money will be used to help Macmillan cancer nurses..
