Story
Calder Valley Books for Change
We need our primary school libraries to stock a diverse range of fiction and non-fiction; picture books and chapter books that include diverse characters of colour, ability, strong female protaganists and boys that are not afraid to be different. We know that our school libraries need much more of a range of books, so are asking for donations so that we can buy and donate diverse books to every Primary school located along the Calder Valley, from Rastrick to Walsden.
We want to make sure our children know the history of struggle, resistance and hard-fought rights. We want to empower every child to know that they can make a difference. We know that the starting point for this is through reading.
We believe in the power of our children: change can happen.

3 years agoHello everyone, I wanted to give an update on what is happening with our fundraiser and what has happened to your generous donations. Including the money we have raised Through justgiving (thank you!) we’ve also received money through a local charity and a local business as well as Facebook donations amounting to just over £3000.half way to our target. We recently purchased books to send out approximately 20 books to 20 local schools, and have enough funds to donate books to ten more schools in the Calder Valley. Please share our news!!! XxX

Calder Valley Books for Change seeks to raise £6000 to buy sets of books for each of the 60 primary schools across the Calder Valley. The books will be diverse and inclusive: some will be inspiring stories, others will have characters not often represented in children’s books.
