Story
We at Ayrshire College have dedicated ourselves to raising funds and awareness of this wonderful project and will be participating in a sponsored climb of Goatfell on the 14th October 2017.
Carrick Sensory – Ayrshire’s only community based sensory provision for children with additional support needs. Based at the Carrick Centre in Maybole, the project has delivered morning play sessions to pre-school and primary aged children with additional support needs and evening cafe sessions to children with additional support needs and their families.
Carrick Sensory was founded in May 2017 with help from the Scottish Governments Community Choices Fund and the PAR partners, after staff within the Carrick Center became aware that some children and their families found it hard to come into the center and make use of the facilities there. This may have been through additional learning needs, disabilities, sensory issues or other needs they may have. Not only does Carrick Sensory give children a place where they feel accepted and included, it also provides a network of support for parents and carers.
A new theme is presented at every weekly session and funding is needed to keep these sessions feeling fresh and interesting to young people. Carrick Sensory are also struggling with finding suitable storage space for their materials and require funding to purchase an outdoor storage container which would keep all their equipment safe and dry.
