Story
Myself & a number of parents from Stanwix School, felt compelled
to set up this Page following a parents Husband being involved in a tragic accident!
The saying 'you really never know the minute' is so fitting, and we all should never take anything for granted - particularly our health. Matty Thicke was involved in a tragic accident on the 6th July which left him with life changing injuries. He fell while simply out walking with his wife & two young children - he jumped for a branch and his grip slipped. Just like that, he broke his neck in 2 places which has left him with severe spinal cord damage & he is now paralysed from the chest down. He has the use of his arms but doesn't have full use of his hands. He is currently at the regional spinal unit in Middlesbrough, awaiting a discharge date. Matty is going to require a lot of specialised equipment & care which you can imagine comes at a high cost! The family have been under a lot of strain physically, emotionally, & emotionally with the weekly hospital visits alone, & the hardwork at home is yet to begin!
Matty is doing lots of physio everyday, & the physios say they have never met anyone like him! They are so impressed with his recovery already as he's managed to do so much more than they ever expected, in such a shory space of time!
Matty is employed by Pirelli & keen to return to work - his positive mindset has to be admired, as does his wife's Emma, who is keeping everything together at home; running a home, & looking after their two young children. Their home needs major adaptions & I know that any help financially towards these items will be gratefully received.
The family are hoping to get Matty involved with hydrotherapy & would like to buy a FES machine which has been recommended by the hospital - it would be a dream to buy one but they are around £20,000 new but can be sought for £10,000 secondhand. Every penny counts!
Please donate whatever you can - the family really need our support!
