Story
Swaziland has been greatly affected by HIV and AIDS. As a result of the HIV epidemic, there are 180,000 AIDS orphans in Swaziland. I will be working with World Challenge who specialise working with Neighbourhood Care Points to support the growing number of orphaned and vulnerable children in Swaziland. They are places where children can come together and access various services; receive care and support, a meal for the day and some form of education.
The funds raised will get me out to South Africa, Swaziland for two weeks. While I'm out there me and a team of young people will join a construction site in building new schools, healthcare, and sanitary areas (this will include making foundations, painting, refurbishment, teaching, agricultural work etc. The resources will be brought from local traders by us) for children who have been orphaned because they lost their parents due to HIV/AIDS.
While we are out there we will be living alongside them, in their community for two weeks. Me and my team will be learning their culture and their way of life. Alongside the work we will be doing, I will be there interacting with the children and getting to know the locals. Furthermore I will be given the opportunity to organise fun, educational activities such as teaching English. I also believe interacting with the young children will benefit their health and development.
For me personally, the opportunity to go out and help others less fortunate than myself will leave me feeling proud in knowing I've made someone's life a little bit easier.
