Story

Hello everyone and thanks for visiting our page.

After some months through the summer of 2023 of being generally unwell with blocked ears and nose and struggling to hear and after a referral to RMCH our then, very fit and active 9 year old son Hughie was diagnosed with T Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma on the 5th December. This is an aggressive blood related cancer. Hughie spent all of December, his 10th birthday, and Christmas and New Year whilst undergoing intensive chemotherapy.

As you can imagine this came as a huge shock to Kate, Finlay and I and over the past few months and a significant learning curve for all involved with Hughie we have been overwhelmed and incredibly grateful for the support care and medical treatment Hughie has received and will continue to receive for a number of years to come at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital (Ward 86). As well as continued support from an army of friends and family and lots of charitable causes supporting parents, children and families within the ward.

Having spent a significant period of time in the hospital Kate and I thought that there are areas that we can assist through charitable donations to already established charities to make future families that walk through the door of Ward 86 a much more comfortable one at a very difficult and challenging time for all.

We are 4 months in to a gruelling 3.5 year chemotherapy regimen and Hughie is coping amazingly. From never really having to have had any medical treatment to having had in excess of 200 treatments in such a short space of time.

The aim of this is to spread donations across the charities rather than there be one focus area when all of them are so important in their own right, offering a mix of different services to children and families affected by a variety of types and stages of cancers. They were all invaluable to us as a family and make very difficult news easier to absorb, process and move forward.

This will be completed by organised events. The first starting in August 2024 with a walk from Stockport, our home, town to Camden Town in London, only 190 miles away! London is Hughie's favourite place on the planet so seems fitting that the end should be there on this particular event. All welcome to take part in this event, feel free to reach out to me for the details of the route and I would be happy to share as well as the company on the long roads.

All are welcome to take part on this and future events to raise funds and the awareness of this and many other cancers that affect children and families.
