Story

This November, I'm asking you to sponsor my Dal Bhat Challenge to give 5 hard-working children the education and opportunity they deserve.

Aishworya Children's Home, based in Kathmandu, Nepal, looks after abandoned and neglected children aged between a few months and 17 years. In 2014 and again in 2016 I visited Aishworya and saw what an incredible, warm and loving place it is.

Last year, generous supporters gave over £1,200 to Aishworya, encouraged by me eating only what the children eat - Dal Bhat - and this year I'm doing it again with a twist!

For the first week of November, I will eat nothing but Dal Bhat - that's rice and lentils - and on Sunday of that week I will also shave my head just as the younger children at Aishworya do for hygiene reasons.

Sunita, Kalpana, Surendra, Sumitra, and Dilip (pictured above) didn't get much of a start in life. Coming from backgrounds of poverty, child labour, and sickness, they joined school late, and really struggled as a result.

Now 15 and 16 years old, they are too old to continue with standard education, so Aishworya has found them work, volunteering and training that they enjoy.

However, to get a good job, they really need a basic qualification. Catch-up school will enable them to achieve the basic educational qualification that is the minimum requirement for most decent jobs in Nepal.

Help me to top last year's total by raising £2,000 - enough to send 5 of the older children to “catch-up school”.

Let's give those kids the start in life they deserve.
