    Story

"The House of Dreams" is a small foundation created by Ken Phitsapeng, a young university student from Laos, who welcomes and helps other children fulfill their dream of reaching college.

In Laos, most children do not finish high school, and those from remote do not even pass primary school because of the difficulties they have to access schools and because they soon begin to help their families working in the fields.

Ken started this beautiful project after his own experience to access the university and now that he has obtained a scholarship, he welcomes 5 boys and girls (who until recently were 7 but two of them have just graduated from high school and obtained a scholarship to the university!), between 11 and 16 years old, who are good at school and want to continue their studies, but due to lack of resources they would have to abandon them. All of them have the same dream, to get to college and to have a better future than the one they would have if staying in their hometowns.

The children live in the same house where Ken lives, who provides them with accommodation, food and a space to study.

We learned about this project thanks to Trip-Drop, which is a social project that publishes non-monetary documented needs of collectives around the world so that travelers like us can help directly.

We are in direct contact with Ken and he has described us the needs they have today:

    - The most important thing right now is to buy a new refrigerator to be able to keep the food, (theirs broke two months ago). For about $300 we can buy one here in Luang Prabang.

    - Basic school material: notebooks, pens, etc.

    - English reading books.

    - A couple of chairs and desk tables.

    - Clothes and shoes.

Apart from this, Ken has told us the children would be very excited to have a special meal and a gift for New Year’s.

In total, we think we can get all this with about $500.
