    Story

WHY DO WE NEED A VAN?

We collect unwanted furniture in Plymouth and give it, free of charge to those in desperate need. We help many charities, associations and individuals in Plymouth and surrounding areas by donating furniture free of charge. Our premise is that the last thing people need to be worried about when faced with a life changing situation is how they will pay to furnish their home. We donate, free of charge, everything from beds to sofas to dining tables and chairs. We also donate items such as kitchenware and soft furnishings where possible.

Some of the people we help are from organisations and charities such as Barnardos, Plymouth Domestic Abuse Service, Girls Welfare Plymouth, Shekinah, Plymouth City Council, BCHA, Royal British Legion as well as many others. Our free of charge list is sent to over 100 organisations and groups. People also come into us themselves for help which we are more than happy to do.

As well as all of this people come to us for advice - we are opening a free coffee corner for those who need to talk or get some advice or discuss what they need. We also have volunteers and people on hand to offer support.

Unfortunately our van has broken down and we have been told it cannot be fixed.

We are left with no alternative but to close our charity which would affect a lot of other charities but most importantly, those who really need it. With the implementation of Universal Credit and with less and less help being available, charities such as ours are sorely needed. We would rather a mother made her house a home with carpets and curtains rather than worrying about where her children are going to sleep. We are a small stepping stone for people who are trying to move on from what is the most challenging time of their lives.

We are heartbroken at the thought of having to close our charity. We have so many people who need us and use our services. We really do not want to let people down.

Here are some quotes from charities that we have helped to help others:

    such a wonderful charity

    you have been so helpful

    we really value your support

Professional and essential service at a critical time

providing a great service to the community

How will we manage without you

Please please don't close your charity

We know times are very hard for everyone financially. We have tried every avenue of funding even writing letters asking people to help.

We are hoping the people in and around Plymouth will throw their support behind us.

Thank you from all of us for reading our story.

Merry Christmas to all of you
