Story

I am privileged to have been able to volunteer with Y Care International in Makeni, Sierra Leone supporting young people in communities affected by the ebola crisis. I encountered young children, men and women that were eager to learn and to engage with local and UK volunteers. This eagerness suprised me as only a small proportion of children and young people were in education. Sadly, the cost of sending a child to school or young person to university is way beyond what a family in poor communities can earn. Education is a privilege of the rich. In my time there I met and supported some young people who had incredible ideas which if given the chance to learn and explore their ideas further may be able to improve the future of their entire community. One young man who helped me visit these communities and gave his time and energy aiming to improve the lives of these people is my friend Foday.

Foday recently contacted me and told me about a course on development the local university is running which allows young people to develope their ideas. Although Foday gave his time to help the people and had ideas that may allow those less privileged to gain employment or engage in education his dreams won't be realised without financial support that will allow him to attend the course. For him to raise enough money to attend university and support his family at the same time is nearly impossible while for us here in the UK education is readily available.

To help Foday and many others in his situation, I am hoping to raise funds which will enable those young idealists and entrepeneurs who have an idea to gain the neccessary education. I would be grateful to anyone who could help me with a small contribution to support these young people to turn dreams of a positive future for these communities and young people into reality.
