Story

The Fernaig Community Trust (Scottish Charity 033722) owns 110 acres of land for the benefit of the folk of the small villages of Achmore and Stromeferry in Lochalsh in the Scottish Highlands. For the past two years we have been working on a project to create a new 1.7km fully-accessible public access footpath through Trust land linking Achmore village to the settlement of Braeintra. The project will cost £84K, planning permission has been granted and an experienced contractor lined up. We have been awarded £71K from the Scottish Rural Development Programme through the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. Fantastic news! By using our own resources, we still have a shortfall of £8,000 and are appealing for your support.

The 1.5m wide path will follow the line of the river beside fields of cattle and sheep (fenced off!) to cross the Braeintra Burn with a new 10m timber bridge and on to the village allotments. From there it will skirt a hayfield and up through the woods to Braeintra. Most of the path is flat and easy walking, and wheelchair-friendly, so makes for an enjoyable and beautiful walk (or cycle), a circular route for all ages and abilities - local people, residents of Skye & Lochalsh and for visitors to the area.

We will keep a record of all those who donate to our appeal and will produce a 'Roll of Honour of Supporters' to be publicly displayed when the path is completed. If you wish to remain anonymous, that of course will be respected.
