FORDS GREEN WAR MEMORIAL PAVILION PROJECT

COVID -19 UPDATE

Due to the current economic situation, the Fords Green Management Committee has decided to temporarily postpone fund raising for the pavilion upgrade. It will resume at a later date.

HOWEVER, because no sport has taken place on the green our income has been impacted, but our running costs have remained. For example, a new mower was purchased in April. Remember, the green is maintained by a group of dedicated volunteers.

Fords Green in Nutley on the edge of the beautiful Ashdown Forest, has hosted Nutley Cricket Club for 150 years as well as the football and stoolball clubs for over 100 years. Most encouraging, there is also a thriving junior Nutley Rams Football Club which currently fields two teams. In addition, the green and pavilion are used for other village events including the Nutley Village Day and “Teas on the Green” throughout August.

The pavilion, now 60 years old, is maintained by volunteers, but no longer fully fit for purpose.

The proposed upgrade will provide bigger and better changing and showering facilities, with separate accommodation for match officials, a requirement of The Mid Sussex Football League before the football team can progress up the league. It will also allow mixed sex use of the facilities.

The addition of a fire escape will enable full use of the first floor, which hitherto could only be used for storage.

Improved insulation and the installation of a modern boiler will render the building more efficient and environmentally friendly as well as being cheaper to operate.

It is intended that Fords Green will not only continue to be an important community asset and focus for village events, but will also generate income from visiting clubs.

This is an ambitious project currently expected to cost £250,000, but with YOUR HELP it will ensure the playing of sport in Nutley for many years to come.
