Through the Facebook group, 'Friends of Neill's Hill Railway Station' [ https://www.facebook.com/groups/114799171893455/ ], a small group of us have undertaken a small but rewarding restoration of the former UP platform (to Queen's Quay) at the old station. It is nearly 70 years since the station closed down and in that time, the old platform was gradually taken over by nature.
Our small project involves (1) the clearing of the undergrowth to expose the former platform; (2) digging down further to expose the quality of the platform wall; (3) sourcing and laying down old wooden railway sleepers; and (4) laying down a number of old BCDR rails along the length of the platform at track level.
Our project is already the talk of the users of the Comber Greenway and is helping to highlight that the greenway was once a former railway line.
This small request to you is to help fund this part of the project.
