Story

Our Son, George Broadhurst, is almost 18 & has been in a Manual Chair from the age of 5 & a Powerchair since the age of 12. He has Ataxic Cerebral Palsy & Hearing Impaired; & is currently using one provided by the NHS. The Wheelchair Service are unable to find a suitable Wheelchair for his needs & have placed him on a waiting list with an unknown time-frame. George has outgrown his current one and is suffering from daily pain & pressure points under his thighs and knees. Financially my husband and I are unable to purchase the Frontier V6 All Terrain Wheelchair he needs. I am also unable to raise any money due to becoming disabled myself.
George has just finished his AS Examinations in Maths & Accounting; & completed the first 4 Units of a Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Business. He is also currently completing his Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award.
George was born at 27 weeks gestation due to my womb rupturing, & he bravely fought to stay alive for 10 & a half weeks. He is the most inspirational child we could have ever wished for - born after 14 years of heartache. Words cannot express how difficult it is to watch him suffer daily in his current wheelchair, & as parents, being totally helpless.
He has faced his Disability with much Dignity & Pride, and has always challenged himself to overcome. George's diagnosis presented with many difficulties, yet he always found a way to succeed - passing 9 GCSE's and the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.
His achievements are a small part of the amazing young man he has become. He is kind, loving and cheerful; & willing to help others. He is an active Member of Whizz-kidz, being an Ambassador, Young Leader & a Regional Board Member.
As Parents our only wish is to help our Son to be as independent in life as he can be. Without the use of a Powerchair suitable for his needs George faces daily pain & the inability to be independent. Please kindly help if you can. Any excess donations will be donated to Whizz-kidz. Thank you.
