Glow Dea's Fundraiser - Chest Waxing for Charity

Hello! My name is Summer and I am the writer of this cause and the face behind my small waxing business Glow Dea. For as long as I can remember having money, I have always thrown my loose change into donation pots, shopped around in charity shops and have done a small part to support charitable causes. I truly believe in helping others and the good karma that comes with it. I promised myself that when I start my own business and get established on my feet, I will consistently donate a portion of my profits to different charities and run yearly fundraising events.

Well, here we are - the first event! On Sunday 4th July 2021 at 4pm, I will be LIVE-STREAMING and WAXING my dad's (aka Chris) very hairy chest to raise money for two charities: the RNLI as chosen by Chris, and the Swindon Down's Syndrome Group as chosen by the local community and my lovely clients! Donations will be split 50% between both charities.
This will be Chris's first wax and he has bravely volunteered, so I wish him luck!

So, why the RNLI? The Royal National Lifeboat Institution is very close to Chris's heart. As an avid kayaker his whole life; taking trips across the globe to kayak the likes of the Grand Canyon, competing in freestyle competitions (holding the title of the 2016 Hurley Classic Men's World Rolling Champion) to paddling over waterfalls in extreme white water. Chris knows the dangers of the waters first hand, so he knows how vital the RNLI are to our UK waters. Just off the coast of St Justinian's in Wales is an international kayaking hotspot where Chris himself actually saved my mum from drowning in a whirlpool! Every time you go to the coast or enjoy the beach, the RNLI are there to lifeguard and show you the safe places to swim. Hopefully you never need them, but one day you may and they could just save you or your loved ones life. Find out more about the RNLI here.

So, why Swindon Down's Syndrome Group? Running up to the event, I ran polls on Glow Dea's social media pages (see Instagram and Facebook) with a range of local charities/causes so that we could choose the 2nd charity together. Swindon Down's Syndrome Group was initially suggested many times and in the end won the vote by a mile!

They are an independent, parent-led charity that support people with Down's Syndrome and their families across Swindon and have been recognised with the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service. They offer swimming lessons, football training, hydro pool therapy sessions, drama projects, day trips, fire courses, speech courses, resource packs and so much more to support our Down's community.
I'm very excited to fundraise for two amazing organisations, and can't wait for the satisfaction of waxing Chris's chest!
