Story

Applecross is a very remote community in the Scottish Highlands, accessible only by single track roads, the shortest route being over the Beallach Na Bar, the highest mountain pass in Britain. The time to drive from here to Hospital is 2 hours, even longer in the Summer months when the roads are busy due to tourism, added to this is the length of time it takes to get an ambulance here in the first place, not to mention weather conditions in winter. In an emergency the Air Ambulance is of vital importance. Last year I lost my beautiful 18 year old daughter Bethany to Sepsis, the Air Ambulance took us from here to Hospital in just 34 minutes, sadly in her case she did not survive due to the nature of Sepsis. The Helicopter was able to land in the Pub car park as it was early morning on the 5th January, for the majority of the year this car park is full, the only flat land we have is filled with tents and camper vans, the local terrain does not allow for such a small helicopter to land, and the Air Ambulance can not carry sufficient fuel to circle looking for a suitable place. Anyone can become ill suddenly, locals and tourists alike. Due to an increase in tourism and the NC500 adding extra traffic to the roads, there are also more accidents involving cars, motorbikes and cyclists. It is vital for us to build a helipad, a patient/casualty can be transferred to the helipad by car with our local GP as the helicopter is en route. In an emergency every minute saved in journey time gives a higher chance of survival, the Air Ambulance saves hours not minutes. Please, please help us to achieve our goal and help save lives. Any amount you are able to give is very much appreciated and will be paid into the bank account of Applecross & District Healthcare Association. Many thanks for reading my story.
