Story
My name is Tim and I live in Guildford and am passionate about this town and all it has to offer and love sense of community I have found here. But it is clear to me that there are many people who have been hit with misfortune do not have access to all the community support that they need to handle these situations.
However, it doesn't have to be this way. There are many people in Guildford who have the skills and drive to help people who are homeless and at risk of homelessness. What they need is resources.
This is where the local community comes in, and specifically you as a member of the local community. By donating to Guildford's homeless charities the Number Five Project and Guildford Action you can have a direct tangible affect on your local community and all those who live within it.
My plan was to ride from Land's End to John O' Groats - a ride of just under 1000 miles - over this Christmas camping along the way, so that I could get a sense of the day to day struggle of being homeless in one of the harshest times of the year to be outside and alone both physically and emotionally.
And I did experience this and combined with trying to complete the miles I set out to achieve it became an impossible task after doing this for the start of the trip, so when I left Shropshire I also Ieft my camping gear too. And from there having been staying at hostels.
I was behind on the distance I set out to achieve and was struggling with completing the riding with the daylight available along with the struggles of getting food, making camp and charging my lights and other gear. In addition to this I was so behind on miles that I have changed the end destination to Berwick-upon-Tweed.
Although adjusted, I hope that you can see the worthiness of the cause and the challenge and that you can give what you can, as when individual members of our local community suffer so do we all, and by helping others we also help ourselves in unimaginable and magical ways.
