Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit our Justgiving page.
On Wednesday 18th May 2022 our Mum (Maureen Kelk) sadly passed away at home after first being diagnosed in October 2020 with a rare type of blood cancer called MDS.
In memory of our mum, we would like to raise awareness of MDS and provide funds to support both the MDS UK charity and the Haematology/ Leukemia fund at the Royal Derby Hospital.
MDS stands for Myelodysplastic Syndromes, and it is a group of blood disorders in which the bone marrow fails to produce healthy blood cells. The condition can develop in some cases into a type of leukemia called Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) which unfortunately is not curable for all patients. This was sadly the case with our Mum.
The money raised via any donations or future fund raising will be split equally between the two charities:
• MDS UK Patient Support Group is a charity providing vital Support, Information, Awareness & Campaigns for those affected by Myelodysplastic Syndromes. See MDS UK website for details.
• Derby and Burton Hospitals Haematology/ Leukemia charity fund (11250). The Haematology department at the Royal Derby Hospital provides vital treatment, wonderful care and support to patients with blood disorders.
Although our mum received this diagnosis, the Royal Derby Hospital provided treatment that allowed her to continue to live her life as normal as possible with her family and many friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Thank you
Debbie and Phil
