    Story

Josh Pelland, a former Royal Marines Commando from Canada, has always had a passion for climbing. He has traveled the world to hit some of the hardest rock and ice climbing there is to offer and planned on becoming a mountain guide in Canada before his horrific accident.

Josh was practicing descents when something happened (he still isn't sure what) and he plummeted 65 feet down a Vancouver rock face. Found by passing walkers he was taken to hospital and underwent multiple surgeries to save his life. He suffered collapsed lungs, aortic dissection, multiple vertebral breaks and a severed spinal cord at T6 level.

Josh is now left paralysed from the mid-spine down.

His incredible mental robustness and Commando ethos have helped him through the initial tough times and after just 4 months he was training on a hand bike with the aim of one day completing an Ironman competition! Tough? Yes. Crazy? Probably.

Josh wants to show people that no matter how bad things get you can still push yourself to the next level. He wants to motivate and inspire people who have gone through difficult and challenging times to 'crack on'.

The money will go towards Josh's equipment, travel and event costs so that he can challenge himself and raise awareness that disability doesn't mean you have to stop setting and completing goals.

He has just done a 160km hand bike ride through tough and hilly roads in Jasper National Park, Alberta. His next goal is a half Ironman and he has a secret goal which will really test his mental grit and physical ability.

I will be raising money for Josh by running the 'Bob Graham' over 2 days. The route is 66 miles over 42 of the highest peaks in the Lake District with a total of 27,000 feet of elevation (almost the height of Everest!).
I will be running it with 3 ladies, armed with a map, compass, first aid kit, food and water. It's going to hurt...

Anything you are able to donate would be incredible.

A huge thank you in advance.

You are all such incredible and generous people, thank you so much!! Josh has told me he's going to buy a wet suit so he can train his open water swimming in preparation for an Ironman 70.3 in Dubai next January. An inspiration to us all I think! I'll try to pin the man down for a thank you note himself and post it on here. Until then, stay awesome.

My trusty daysack came with me on the whole route which weighed 6kgs with a full Camelbak. I taped up the area it rubs on but obviously not enough... In it I had water, food, basic first aid kit, head torch, a bivvy bag, GPS, mapping, phone, painkillers and a leatherman. Prepared for most events! I used a Berghaus Terabyte 30 for those who are interested. Jolly good daysack with waist and chest straps as well as a pocket and hole for a Camelbak bladder.

So according to Strava I covered 72.5 miles, 25,453 ft of elevation, 29.13 hrs of moving time and 14,976 calories burned. I could have been quicker if I knew the area (it's my first time in the Lakes), had better visibility and less wind for some of the route, and wasn't carrying a daysack, but it all comes down to the fact I'm not fit enough to do it in 24 hrs. It is TOUGH! It was great to meet The Chipchases at the top of Pillar. Thank you for the donation and good luck on finishing the Wainwrights! (214 fells!!)

Perhaps next time you need to go 66 miles you could use a bus? Much easier than using your feet
