Weʼve raised £1,650 to Purchase Chris Chapman's unique photographic representation of the Medieval bosses in the roof of St Andrew's Church in SouthTawton

Funded on Monday, 30th September 2019

    Story

While undertaking research on 'The Three Hares' motif Chris Chapman, renowned Dartmoor photographer, took the opportunity to photograph all the bosses in the roof trusses of St Andrews. Using high quality board and non reflecting glass he has merged all of them to create a stunning 120cm x 129 cm work of art. It is for sale and could be lost to our Church and Community.

The importance and value of the bosses was recognised by English Heritage and was instrumental in the PCC securing a large grant for the repairs to the roof in 2014. When hung, we, and visitors to the Church, will be able to study the detail of these magnificent and ancient original 'Friends' of St Andrew's

We found these on our recent holiday to Pembrokeshire - St David's Cathedral in the Lady Chapel. I think there is just one more in Wales in a church near St David's.

Jerry and Charlie feel strongly that this work of art, directly associated with St Andrew's should not be lost to our Community. The bosses, many dating back to the 15th century were a significant factor in securing the support of English Heritage to fund the new roof in 2014
