Story

A private investment management company has pledged £43500 to this project. In order to release the funds we must match the donation. Please read below for more information on the project and how you can help in realising a healing process for members of the community so affected by the Grenfell tragedy.

OVERVIEW

What is Trauma?

Trauma is a direct personal experience of an event that involves actual or threatened death or serious injury; threat to one's physical integrity, witnessing an event that involves the above experience, learning about unexpected or violent death, serious harm, or threat of death, or injury experienced by a family member or close associate. Memories associated with trauma are implicit, pre-verbal and cannot be recalled, but can be triggered by stimuli from the in environment. The person's response to aversive details of traumatic event involve intense fear, helplessness or horror.

What’s The Plan?

The immediate necessity is to start working directly with the victims of this deeply traumatising tragedy in the Grenfell community. We are part of the local community, with both family and friends who have have been affected by the tragedy, and its aftermath. We have a long history and experience of working with Trauma and PTSD, and want to bring our expertise to those affected by the Grenfell fire.

A central theme of the groundwork initiative is "responsiveness". The pattern of provision we put in place is a comprehensive response to the deep impact of anger, grief and trauma that will be affecting participants, but it will have to adapt its shape to what we find arises in the group work as that develops.

This a six month programme to be repeated four times over a two year period.
