I’m Ahmed and I am thirteen years old. Ever since I can remember my mother has been focusing all her might and energy into attaining a PhD which revolves around improving the lives of Autistic children. She has spent entire nights in the university; not being home for days at a time with me, being a young child, missing my mother dearly.

However, after years of essay after essay, project after project, and exam after exam she was refused her PhD, and has undergone a very stressful and time-consuming appeal process, both within the university and externally. She needs to challenge the unfair and mistaken decision of the Office of Independent Adjudicators (OIA) which favours the University’s decision to not award her the PhD despite the fact that the university acknowledged that my mother was unwell during the oral examination which severely hindered her performance.

After consulting several solicitors, my mother has been advised that the evidence is on her side. It is possible to reach a favourable outcome if the OIA is challenged, but this should be done swiftly and by an experienced Higher Education legal team. We have put together what we can towards the legal fees, however £2500 still remains.

My mother has not been able to work in her field due to the PhD not being awarded, which has left my father being our only source of income. He has just spent thousands of pounds on residency applications, whilst supporting 3 of my siblings through University - so things are tight financially as you can imagine.

My mother's supervisors, many University staff and the solicitors have all stated that she has a very strong case. We have tried everything else! so this really is our last hope...
