Story

Meet Zunaisha, a very close relative of mine. During my visit to Peshawar, Pakistan, I met Zunaisha for the first time and came to know about her disability.

Zunaisha had heart surgery at 3 months old which resulted in hearing loss. Deafness, although rare, exists as a complication of cardiac surgery. Following many tests and scans, Zunaisha has been advised a cochlear implant, which will give her the ability to hear and eventually speak. Her surgery is scheduled for 18th of October 2017, and is quoted at 20 lac rupees (roughly £14’000). Zunaisha belongs to an extremely low-income family and this surgery is impossible for them to afford. They sent Zunaisha’s details to the Pakistani government, as a plea, but received no reply.

Her father said he cannot afford this operation but he also cannot afford to see his daughter grow into an uneducated woman who is dependent on others for basic needs.

I’ve attached all the relevant medical history in the updates section. Zunaisha has very little time left till her surgery, which NEEDS to be done before she turns 3 years old. It would mean the world and beyond for her if we reach the target so she can finally hear and learn to speak like a normal child.

Thank you for reading :)
