Story
My daughter Maisie's teacher Mr. Berry asked me into the P1-P2 class to help the children compose a large, ambitious charcoal drawing exploring where they live in Lochalsh. It was such an enjoyable (and messy) experience and the resulting drawing is brimming with life and energy. Locals will recognise many important landmarks such as Eilean Donan Castle, the Skye Bridge, the Shinty Pitch, the Chippy and of course the Co-op.
I was so proud of what the children had achieved that I shared the picture on Facebook and the response was quite overwhelming with many asking for it to be on permanent display. One parent suggested the Kyle Medical Centre waiting room would be perfect. It seems the ideal spot given how much joy art brings and how healing it can be, what could be more theraputic than looking at children's art? So that is the plan. We have a spot secured and permission obtained to put the picture in the waiting room. Now for the problem of a very large frame...
Very kindly the tech teacher at Plockton High School has offered to take on the task of framing the 2.4mX1.4m drawing, along with the help of the pupils. All we need is to pay for the cost of the perspex (£220) labour and wood is free. A professional framer would charge upwards of £500 so this is an absolute bargain, and the result will be of a professional standard complete with a plaque with the children's names.
This is a truly collaborative effort, a work of art that will uplift all who look at it. All we need is perspex! Any donation however small will help. Thank you.
