Story

I have Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) type 2 and for many years there have been confrences about SMA where people and their families with SMA can go to. It happens once a year and it is a fantastic opportunity for people with SMA and their families to meet. Meet new friends and experience feeling normal. There are so many people with SMA there it is amazing.

However teenager, Adults and ocassionaly children can't be lifted as it will damage either their back or their parents/carers back and most people with SMA havent got the muscle strength to sit on a proper toilet. So need a commode chair which also doubles up as a shower chair. As people with SMA can't stand under a shower.

It is difficult going on holiday or going to conferences etc as we need these and not many hotels have them. I have found a place that hires both the showerchair and hoist for £400, which is silly money considering I cant go to the loo or bed without this equipment. Every £1 given will make it £1 closer to me going as if i cant raise £400 I cant go as the room itself is £100, there are auctions to raise funds at the conference and raffles too, plus a day out and i cant afford it. I need a break to clear my head also from all the fundraising i do even though i love it and this would be a perfect chance for me to do this. So even if it is £1 that is a huge help.
