Story

In the early hours of Monday 14th August, torrential rainfall caused devastating mudslide and flash floods across Sierra Leone’s capital Freetown, killing over 600 people. Hundreds of homes were engulfed and families trapped as they slept. The death toll is expected to rise significantly as hundreds were buried beneath the rubble of the mudslide.Homes were completely destroyed and over 20,000 people made homeless.

Sierra Leone is one of the poorest countries in the world and the Government is struggling to cope with the scale of the disaster. The immediate priority is to provide a roof for families as the rainy season has made survivors even more vulnerable.

Please help the people of Sierra Leone who have suffered so much adversity in recent times. Ten years of brutal war ended fifteen years ago, killing hundreds of thousands and then in 2014 they were plagued by the deadly ebola virus which killed over five thousand people. Now they have been hit by mudslide and flash floods which have killed over 600 people in less than 24 hours.

We are patriotic Sierra Leoneans who have been deeply touched by this disaster. Through your support, we can help alleviate the suffering of the survivors.

All donations to this fund will provide emergency shelter in the form of tents and family survival kits to survivors of the disaster. Thank you for your support.
