On average 1445 children die from preventable deaths in the UK each year yet 32% of deaths in children are avoidable. There are 12 sudden cardiac deaths in people between the ages of 12 and 35 in the UK each week. Lessons 4 Life is a not for profit project established to deliver emergency first aid training to pupils, giving them the skills needed to reduce the number of preventable deaths in Hull.

Pupils who are confident in first aid grow into adults and parents who are able to give lifesaving treatment to prevent unnecessary deaths. By establishing the project to deliver sessions to every pupil over many years will create a unique community in Hull where everyone has lifesaving first aid skills.

Sessions will include practical skills accompanied by learning sessions linked to the National Curriculum subjects English, Maths and Science. This project will provide pupils with the knowledge and skills needed to deal with emergency situations as well as an understanding of the Ambulance Service, emotional wellbeing and the effects on the human body.

There is no other training program for school pupils in the UK which is delivered by a combination of medically qualified and teaching staff but free at source. The pupils will learn new skills, gain an understanding of first aid and what to do in an emergency situation. After a previous session, staff and pupils felt that the session was valuable and enjoyable. By providing this session to all secondary pupils we will help save lives that may be lost unnecessarily.

As parents, ourselves who have experienced life changing situations with our own families, working in the education industry and Emergency Medical industry we are highly motivated to make sure young children and adults have the skills they need to deal with life threatening situations which may arise in school, at home, with family, friends and peers.
