    Story

This September (Covid 19 allowing) I will be parachuting into Ranville, France as near to Pegasus Bridge as allowed, recreating a drop that, 19 year old Signalman Daniel Lyons, did on 6th June 1944, as one of the 6th Airborne Signals. I will be wearing Dan’s smock that he wore that day to do the jump and will then present the smock to the Pegasus Museum in Normandy, France.

For a long time a Parachute Jump has been on my bucket list, and as a keen fundraiser for the last 42 years, have decided that as I turned 75 this year, this was a fund raising opportunity not to be missed.

Over the years I became good friends with Dan and the rest of his family, as well as many of the other veterans and I wanted to ensure that all those wishing to make the journey back to Normandy or the Netherlands are still able to. So, with this in mind, any money that I raise from the jump will be split equally between The Taxi Charity For Military Veterans (formerly known as the London Taxi Benevolent Association For War Disabled), which organises transport for the veteran trips, and the Normandy Memorial Trust Charity.

Update part 2 So at the ripe old age of 76 I landed safely after an interesting jump at 12000 feet. A first for me, but I have since been asked to do it again and can't wait. Next time I will be jumping out to hand one of the cheques over to the Normandy Memorial Trust. Hopefully I don't let go of it as I jump!! Luckily the Taxi charity are happy for me to get a taxi to deliver their cheque. Naturally I'm still after any donations that you can spare, after all every penny counts when it's for such amazing charities.

I've only gone and done it!!! On the 5th June 2022 I jumped from a plane wearing Dan Lyons smock. I landed in Le Harve, after a long weekend of waiting for the right weather conditions. I know the men that jumped 78 years ago didn't have the luxury of waiting for the right weather conditions but health and safety has changed a bit in those 78 years!!

As the 6th June comes ever closer I have raised my target to £6000. If you can help me raise this amazing amount for the veterans, I would be truly grateful. Thank you for continuing to support me.
