    Story

As Mayor of Chesham I am walking the 10-mile Chess Valley River Walk on Sunday 12th May to raise money to carry out regeneration work to the River Chess, our incredibly rare natural chalk stream. It is a vital resource and an incredible natural habitat that is threatened by development, high levels of water consumption, environmental changes, pollution, pressures on the chalk aquifer that feeds it and its most dangerous predator: humans. We need to actively repair it and ensure its survival for future generations to enjoy. Chesham's Impress The Chess group includes volunteers from the River Chess Association, Chesham Environmental Group, the Chiltern Society, and local residents. Our Action Plan identifies key locations along the River and projects that will improve it, and every penny raised will buy the materials we need to deliver the Plan for the River and the Town.

With 6 days to go we are nearly there and have raised £1,410 of our £2k target. Great news and just a few pounds more to go so please dig deep and donate. Training is going well with plenty of practice walks that seem to have included pitstops at local pubs including The Black Horse on Vale Road, The Blue Ball in Asheridge, The Pig In The Pantry in Ashley Green, the Queen's Head and The Crown in Ley Hill. My gin and tonic lifting arm is well toned and my legs are getting stronger. All good progress for the walk this Sunday, 12th of May.

The 10-mile Chess Valley River Walk route passes through beautiful Chiltern’s scenery, some of its oldest villages, and showcases local wildlife. It passes the site where a Roman villa once stood, the 18th century tomb of William Liberty and a disused watercress farm in Sarratt.
