Story

Retford Archaeological Metal Detecting Group was established in 2024 and has grown to include a diverse range of members from across Nottinghamshire who share an interest in uncovering history through archaeology and metal detecting and who are passionate about educating others about local history through community outreach activities and events.

The Group recently concluded its first archaeological dig in the village of Littleborough, close to the former Roman Town of Segelocum. This has uncovered a wealth of artefacts from the Roman and Medieval periods as well as evidence of buildings and Roman roads.

In order to be able to share these finds with others, the Group is proposing to create a dedicated museum within the church at Littleborough which is now closed for worship. Permission for this has been granted by the Churches Conservation Trust and funding is now needed in order to purchase display boards and cabinets. We would therefore be grateful for any donations towards this.
