Story

In November 2016 Dick suffered a severe brain haemorrhage where he was taken to Hinchingbrooke hospital. His condition was so serious that he was moved to Addenbrookes where he underwent several operations over a period of weeks. Finally stable enough to move to back to Hinchingbrooke Dick has been recovering well.

He was moved to Marbrook rehabilitation centre in Eaton Socon where he has been receiving physio and speech therapy. Dick’s rehabilitation has been going really well but unfortunately the funding for his stay has ended and Dick now has to leave Marbrook to return to his family home. Wendy has started to make adaptations to the house to make things more accessible for Dick to get around.

He has recently taken 10 steps unaided which is an amazing achievement for him but still so far away from where he needs to be. It is now up to his family to care for Dick and provide the therapy that he needs.

It is with this page that we ask for help to enable them to not only provide that little bit of independence for Dick but also to be able to complete the home adaptations that he requires to be able to return home.

Many of you will recognise Dick for many different reasons, from Longsands School, his menswear stint in Barretts, to his time at the Woolpack in Eynesbury, being chairman of the LVA, Steward at Buckden Village Club, proud owner of Buckden Private Hire, President / Treasure of the Eynesbury and St Neots Dart League.

Today we ask you to help us to raise the funds to help towards the cost of Dick’s physio therapist to help continue the good work that he has already achieved. His strength is growing more and more but without the physio the hard work that he has already put in will quickly be lost and he will be reliant on aids for the rest of his life. Any amount big or small will help to give Dick back the independence his is so used to having.
