    Story

One cyclist, 230 miles, One day.
The reason: in memory of an extremely close family member, Iain, a truly gifted musician and individual who at 15 sadly lost his life.

In his memory, and to raise much needed funds for the Alder Hey Children’s Hospital Bereavement Suite, who showed great kindness and humanity to our family at this terrifically difficult time. The specialist team offer a unique service to parents and family who have lost a child; and who gave Iain’s family the chance to say goodbye in a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere far removed from any crematorium or church.
The suite relies almost entirely on public donations, so I'm embarking on the one thing I only know, ride my bike.
So that’s what I'm doing, I'm riding my bike from home in Scotton, North Yorkshire to Didmarton in South Glos. Iain's home, on the southernmost tip of the Cotswolds. A total of 230 miles I plan to tackle in 1 day.

The funds raised will also be shared with the Air Ambulance Service who serve the North West and provided such excellent on the scene care for Iain.

So in a nutshell that’s it, I'll get up on the 23rd October, in the dark at 4.00 in the morning and set off on a ride I hope will raise vital funds for these fantastic services and to honour Iain who had a huge future ahead of him, who played Nerf guns with my kids, showed and played them all his guitars and was a patient and brilliant teacher when they had an X box controller in their hands for the first time.

If you can donate a little something, it will help me get through what even by my standards is likely to be one mighty long day in the saddle.

Well its all done, https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1417699797. What can I say but a massive, massive thank you to press we have raised a staggering £8,486 so thank you on behalf of John, Fiona, Jamie and Ross they are touched by your well wishes and fantastic generosity. As many of you now know, I pedalled out of the garage 4.30am Sunday 23 Oct. in Scotton and you can see from the photos it went pretty well averaging 19.3mph which meant I arrived in Didmarton after 220 miles to a superb welcome of bugle horns and cheers out.
