Story

In 2014, Riley was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 4. This was incomprehensible news for his family and they could not see what the future ahead of them held. We as a community have followed Riley’s journey. We have seen how through this time, he has shown great strength and courage for such a young boy while being continually compassionate and thoughtful of others. Not only this, we have seen Cat and Aaron, Riley’s wonderful parents, continue to show what outstanding and caring individuals they are. They have had to deal with unimaginable lows throughout Riley’s treatment, not always knowing which way everything would turn out. They have attempted to continue with the normal trials of everyday life, juggling work to ensure Riley has a parent with him at all times throughout his hospital and home stays and providing a home for their two gorgeous boys but this has taken a toll on the whole family physically, emotionally and financially. The effects of a cancer diagnosis are catastrophic on a family but during the last 3 years they all have still given their time and contributed to the local community; Riley through many fundraising activities, Aaron through his support for Pen Phoenix, Cat by ensuring the Cratzycatz dance gang go from strength to strength and also Charlie, who adores his big brother Riley and makes everyone smile on days that seem ever so dark . We as a community can show Riley and his family that we want to be part of his journey as he enters remission this month and looks towards his future.

When a child is fighting a life-threatening condition, hospital stays, isolation and intense treatment are part of their everyday reality. Imagination can be the only thing that helps them escape. Dreaming about the world of football has helped Riley throughout his cancer treatment. He has imagined being like one of his football idols and playing football….he is now building up his strength and playing footie for Pen Phoenix! Riley would love to visit Barcelona where his idols play and now that he is coming to the end of his treatment this dream could become true with our help. On 7th October, I am doing a walk starting early morning from Dwygyfylchi, along the coast towards Tregarth and onwards to Llanberis, finishing the walk at the top of Snowdon all in one day. I am doing this to raise funds to give Riley a ‘wish’ holiday. It’s a holiday that will allow him to experience something that he and his family never thought would be possible over the last 3 years of treatment - a future, such a simple word but so hard to see 3 years ago. Please help Riley’s wish come true and help him and his family have this time to look to the future as a family. I wish to raise £2000, any money raised over that that amount will be put towards helping them get back on their feet as a family. Thank you x
