Story

Dear Friend/ Ex Colleague/Family/Acquaintance
Since retiring in 2011, I have spent quite a lot of time working in Africa on a number of charitable projects. Four years ago, I commenced work with Adam Mbwambo, who is frankly one of the hardest working individual’s I have ever met. His mission in life is to help the poor of Tanzania to access clean water.
Adam and I have created a new charity to access clean water supplies from underground boreholes in Tanzania. This is called “Water Access” and the web site is www.wateraccess.org
There are many boreholes which have been drilled in East Africa, and they no longer work due to lack of maintenance and the cost of diesel for pumping. The village communities are unable to maintain them because of lack of money after they have been installed, and in consequence the village women revert to dirty pools of water for supplies.
Adam has also held a job working with another British based charity for a number of years working on supplying solar power to remote villages, mainly to power and charge mobile phones as these have become a necessity for transferring small amounts of money from relatives living in towns to the villages from where they originate.
Our new charity mission statement is:
“Water Access will assist local Communities and independent Entrepreneurs in the provision of potable water, for drinking, sanitation facilities, and agricultural use. Partners, Donor Institutions, and charity partners will be sought to work with Water Access, to provide water at an affordable price, by the main power usage of Solar Energy”.
We are intent upon increasing the access to clean water by drilling wells, and pumping the potable water during the day when the sun will power the pumps via solar panels, to tanks above the ground surface. This water will be stored in 5000 litre tanks and sold to local villagers at a notional rate consistent with an amount of money required for maintenance of equipment. Ada
