Story
12 aonths ago, 17-year-old Lily was hit by a 4x4 vehicle whilst crossing a road in Dubai. She suffered severe life-threatening injuries to her brain, jaw, chest, vertebrae, pelvis and limbs. She was in a coma for three weeks and needed multiple surgeries, a tracheostomy and a PEG feeding tube. Lily survived, thanks to amazing emergency care, a tremendous fighting spirit, and the support of her family and friends, and has since been bravely facing a long and tough road to recovery. After 5 months in hospital, Lily went home a few weeks ago. She has good range of movement with her left arm, very limited movement (but improving) in her right arm, and no voluntary movement in either of her legs at the moment. She needs two people to help her move from bed to wheelchair or chair to car. Her feeding tube has been removed and she is able to feed herself using her left hand. Lily’s cognition is improving every day, and her speech is improving now that her tracheostomy has been removed.
