Story
Arush is a young man who was working in Katmandu being trained as an artist in Mandala (Thangka) painting. During Covid, all foreign workers were evicted from Nepal and sent back to their own countries, predominantly North India. He returned to Zira, the Punjab with his wife, newborn child and his younger siblings. He is now back with his family but suffering because the caste system in India means that he is treated very poorly by the police who maintain control and order through violence and exploitation, for example they will arrest and imprison people who they consider not abiding by Covid regulations. They will only release them when money has exchanged hands. Over recent days, they are now having the added challenge of monsoons and flooding which is making travel, work and the acquisition of food even more challenging. His basic costs for survival are £10 a week. This will cover food and shelter. We are developing a project to auction his art and we will provide further information soon but for now, we just need to help him and his family survive the next 12 months.
