Story
Team Happy Feet (Julie Brown, Steve Youens, Nicole Brownlee, Sam Brownlee, Adam Youens, Luke Youens & Ben Brownlee) will take on the Three Peak Challenge (Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike & Snowdon) in 24 hours over the Easter Weekend to raise much needed funds for Kath Lee's medical treatment.
Kath, our sister-in-law/aunt/family friend, has been accepted as a viable candidate for a pioneering stem cell therapy that could slow down the continued progress of the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) that has been ravaging her body for many years, the treatment could also eradicate the two brain lesions and three spinal lesions, which could radically improve her mobility and overall symptoms.
In 2009, Kath was diagnosed with relapsing remitting Multiple Sclerosis. Then in 2014, a full body MRI scan revealed a further 3 lesions on Kath’s spine and she was diagnosed with Secondary-Progressive MS (SPMS). In SPMS, symptoms worsen steadily over time, with or without the occurrence of relapses and remissions, which explained her continuing deterioration in her symptoms and mobility.
Kath’s mobility is now severely compromised as the muscles in her arms and legs do not work properly, in 2017 she was forced give up work as her health continued to decline.
In September 2018, Kath was referred to a leading stem cell therapy research company Wellbeing International in London. Wellbeing https://www.wellbeingint.com/ have successfully helped over 50 MS patients with their pioneering stem cell therapy. Following a consultation to explore her current condition, Kath was accepted as a viable candidate.
There are no treatments available on the NHS, this is Kath's only hope to halt the disease’s progress, eradicate the lesions on her brain and spine and improve her mobility and symptoms.
Please support our challenge - the treatment cannot be given to MS patients who have lost all of their mobility and though not a cure for MS, the treatment could dramatically improve and lengthen Kath’s life.
