Story

*UPDATE* Christine McNally, Emma Grech, Lucy Bignell, Camille Gill, Charley Jaques and Paul Garner took part in the Tough Mudder London South on Saturday 16th September 2017, to raise money for The Saffron Rose 4 Rett Charitable Trust, Gibraltar. For those of you that don't know what a Tough Mudder is, it is a 10 mile-long obstacle course that tests mental as well as physical strength. Below are some photos of such obstacles:

So why did we choose to do this (apart from temporary insanity?), well we felt very passionate about the charity we are raising money for. It is 'The Saffron Rose 4 Rett Charitable Trust', which was set up to raise awareness of Rett Syndrome, a condition that our friends daughter Saffron has. Here is the beautiful Saffie:

The charity raises money to buy Tobii Eye Gaze equipment and specialist software for St Martins School, Gibraltar. This equipment allows children like Saffron, who cannot communicate through conventional means, the chance to communicate through the use of eye tracking.

For those of you that don't know very much about Rett Syndrome, the essential points are that it’s a rare genetic neurological and developmental disorder that affects the way the brain develops, causing a progressive inability to use their muscles and speech. It occurs almost exclusively in girls. Most babies born with Rett syndrome seem to develop normally at first, but after about 6 months of age, they lose skills they previously had — such as the ability to crawl, walk, communicate or use their hands. The equipment that the charity raises money for, allows children like Saffron, to be able to communicate where they may not have been able to before.
