Weʼve raised £6,334 to Support CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) - we’ll be running the length of the UK, over 650 miles in 3 weeks, an Ultra Marathon a day

Funded on Tuesday, 9th November 2021

    Story

6,500 people die by suicide every year.

    That's 125 people a week.

    17 people a day.

75% of these suicides are male.

Suicide is the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK.

We want YOU to join us on our gruelling journey to raise money and help make a powerful positive change on suicide rates, particularly within men in the UK.

This vast and enduring physical challenge will be raising money for the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), the leading movement against suicide.

Read more about them here: https://www.thecalmzone.net/ and take a look at their existing campaigns further below.

THE GREAT BRITISH RUN will be taking place during September 2021.

Over a 3-week period, we will be running through every Capital City in the UK.

That’s over 600 miles to cover.

An ultra-marathon (30+ miles) every day for 3 weeks.

We will be starting at Edinburgh, making our way to Belfast, then to Dublin, heading to Cardiff before making our way to the finish line in London, at Buckingham Palace.

Please follow our journey on Instagram! We will be posting updates throughout our training as well as having live streams throughout the Great British Run.

    WHO ARE WE?

Rob Dunlop, 30, is a personal trainer and Matthew Goodman, 28, works as a train operator for the TFL.

These two best mates are your pretty ordinary run of the mill guys with ZERO ultra-endurance running experience and this extraordinary challenge is a completely different level to anything they have ever done, seen or ever imagined.

SO, WHY ARE WE DOING IT?

The bottom line is, we want to change the way people in the UK, especially men, view mental health and suicide permanently.

This year with a global pandemic and two national lockdowns, we have all realised that there are a lot people, including our own friends and families, who have really struggled mentally, emotionally, physically and financially.

There are people around us, and maybe you’re guilty of it too, of brushing off that we’re ‘fine’ when deep down we might be struggling and feel that we can’t speak out.

Whereas some people might find it easier to come forward, speak out and seek help, there are still a lot of people that find it difficult to get the support they need.

These people may even go on to do something irreversible when they see no other way out.

We need to support these people.

We need to make a change to our society’s stigmas.

We need to stand up and fight for something we have control over.

Your donation can help save lives and give that extra person the confidence and support they need.

    WHO ARE CALM?

CALM run a free and confidential helpline and webchat – 7 hours a day, 7 days a week – for anyone who needs to talk about life’s problems.

Other projects and national campaigns you might have seen include:

    #Project84

    #DontBottleItUp

    The Best Man Project

    What your money can do:

    • £8 funds a potentially lifesaving call,

    • £24 provides four families who have lost someone to suicide with support materials,

    • £109 equips a volunteer with training and support.

    • Since the beginning of lockdown, the CALM helpline has answered 84,954 calls and chats and directly prevented 282 suicides

Thank you in advance, for all your support!!
