Story
The Jay Sheldon Trust (charitable status pending) was set up in memory of Jay. He was 29 years old when he was diagnosed with Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumour DSRCT and 31 when he died. He left behind a widow, two small boys, a career and a hope that his dying would not be in vain.
DSRCT is a rare and devastating sarcoma, which affects the young. Its average range is from 15 to 30 years old and the five year survival statistics are less than 15%. The cancer is fast growing which even after treatment readily returns and the treatment is brutal.
Starting on 26th August 2017, Jay’s mother Katrina and her Labrador Zebbie are walking from Edinburgh, where Jay was treated, to Oxford, his childhood home. The ambition of the walk is to raise both awareness and funds for DSRCT.
Currently there is little funding for research into DSRCT and therefore it remains largely unknown. The Jay Sheldon Trust aspires to raise funds which will go directly into research for better understanding, earlier diagnosis and more effective treatment of the disease. The hope is that Jay’s legacy will help others in the future .
