Story

The Kitega Community Centre are currently involved in building a new health centre to help serve the local community. Currently many people in Uganda do not have access to even basic health care. For many, the lack of services coupled with the cost involved in travelling to hospitals, as well as the treatment itself are huge barriers that can result in people struggling to cope with poorly controlled medical issues that can result in loss of income or even fatality.

Ally and Jenny are walking the West Highland Way in the hope of raising some money to help provide some equipment to get the new health centre off the ground. Last year Ally underwent major knee surgery and had to relearn how to walk for the 3rd time in her adult life. One of her goals for her recovery from surgery was to be able to walk the 100 miles of the West Highland Way. Prior to the surgery Ally could just about walk 100 steps!

The health centre is situated in Katungalu which is one of the villages that the Kitega Centre has helped through its Vicoba projects and the school for orphans. It is also home to some of the disabled children who attend the centre, all of whom would greatly benefit from having easy access to proper health care.

The provision of health care is something that is all to often taken for granted but has such a huge impact on daily life for everyone. Please join us in trying to make health care just that little bit easier to access for the people of Katungalu and the surrounding communities.
