Why your donation matters

Creating safer streets where everyone wants to walk

Living Streets is here to create better, safer streets where people want to walk. We stand up for pedestrians like you. We campaign for change that will help cut road deaths and put people first. We work with millions of school children to get them walking to school and we work to make streets more enjoyable places.

Our streets are the one public service that everyone uses, but it’s easy to take them for granted. Many streets are poorly maintained, unsafe and make it difficult for vulnerable people to get about.

Getting people walking can be crucial to tackling a range of issues, from helping people get healthier to bringing communities together. We want to see living streets for everyone, but can only continue campaigning with your help. Donate now to create safer streets.

Case study: donations in action

Since Omar, brought home his first Living Streets Walk Once a Week badge about a year ago, he and his brother, Hamzah have walked to school every day. Their mum, says they are ’slim, active and full of life’. Omar now moans when he has to travel by car!

Many children don't have the opportunity to develop a love for walking like Omar - the number of children walking to school has been decreasing year on year. Discouraged and frightened by congested road systems, 1/3 of children are scared of walking to school because of speeding traffic. We are in danger of allowing a generation of our children to grow up with a range of serious health problems. 1 in 3 children now leave primary school overweight or obese.

At Living Streets, our vision is that every child who can walk to school, does so. We work with schools, local authorities and parents to identify suitable walking routes, raise road safety awareness and encourage children to see the walk to school as a fun everyday activity.
