Old age can bring anxiety and isolation – at MHA we aim to give older people the best possible quality of life, by providing the right care and support for each individual.

With the support of our donors, we’ve been able to achieve a lot for older people. We’re recognised as experts in dementia care, with a focus on the person not the illness. Donations have been crucial in establishing our pioneering music therapy service, which gives people with dementia a vital chance to express themselves without needing to find the right words. We also provide funding for 52 Live at Home schemes around the UK, providing a lifeline to people who are isolated and finding it difficult to cope.

Case study: donations in action

MHA’s 52 Live at Home schemes around the UK provide vital support for 8,000 isolated older people. Each provides different services depending on the needs of the local community,supporting some of the most isolated people in their area. One lady told us:

Being a member of Pontefract Live at Home’s Telebuddies has given me a reason to get out of bed in the morning, knowing they’re going to ring. If it weren’t for them, I would go for days without anyone being concerned whether I’m living or dying.On your own it’s a lonely life, but having Telebuddies gives me a feeling of security, knowing there’s someone who cares. Just knowing they are there is comforting. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
