Why your donation matters

CASH FOR COAL APPEAL

Fuel cost rises are not just affecting households and road users; the North Yorkshire Moors Railway has been hit by a doubling in coal costs in less than five years. The railway uses around 2500 tonnes of coal each year to fuel its steam engines, which run on the 24 mile stretch between Pickering and Whitby.

Rather than put up fares the North Yorkshire Moors Railway are inviting a £1 donation ‘to buy a shovelful of coal’ from those who feel they can afford it. But I must stress, these contributions to our ‘Cash for Coal’ appeal are entirely voluntary. Whether they wish to donate or not, most of all we want visitors to enjoy their day on our Railway and the spectacular North Yorkshire scenery
