Why your donation matters
More than 1.3 billion people worldwide have no access to electricity. Indoor air pollution from paraffin, wood, grass or animal dung used for lighting and heating kills nearly 2 million people every year – mainly women and children. Lack of energy access is a major barrier to development for poor communities in developing countries.
Our work tackles poverty through providing affordable renewable energy systems for remote off-grid communities. Our projects light up homes, schools and clinics; clean water is pumped to households for washing, cleaning and cooking, and to fields to irrigate crops. Access to energy stimulates trade and enterprise and improves access to health and education opportunities.
Please make a donation now and help us transform lives through renewable energy!
Case study: donations in action
“I am happy, happy happy! When they told me about it in December I didn’t think it would happen but when the fridge arrived last week it was like a dream come true!”
These were the words of Carla, a nurse in Monkey Point, a remote village in Nicaragua.
For extremely remote communities like this, snake bite anti-venom is a vital resource in the clinic’s medical kit, but it has to be kept cold. In 2010 a young man from a nearby community, begged Carla to come to his village to treat his 12 year old sister. Because she had no anti-venom at the clinic, Carla could not help, and sadly the girl died before she could reach the nearest town (a 10 hour walk away) for treatment. Carla says the fridge-freezer has given her hope. She can also stock vaccines and HIV tests, and says that thanks to Renewable World, and local partner blueEnergy who installed the fridge, never again will someone have to die simply because her clinic does not have energy to power a fridge..
