Why your donation matters

A Long Wait: Filmed on Chole Island, Tanzania, this film tells the story of Sele. Sele has woken up in a new era... the solar era.

Help us get a get a clean solar light into every home in Africa by 2020.

The sun shines brightest on Africa. Yet when night falls at 6pm, over 110 million off-grid homes are left in darkness. Families spend 20% of income on traditional lighting, such as tin kerosene lanterns or wax candles. These products are not only extremely toxic and explosive but also cripplingly expensive.

We don't think that's right.

At SolarAid, we work with partners to sell clean and sustainable solar lights in the remotest regions of Africa. Last year, we sold 300,000 units. This year we plan to 'Make it a Million'. The rewards are huge. Each one of these lights can enable a child to do their homework, an adult to work a second job - a household to save money for the better things in life.
