Why your donation matters

Every year, over 80,000 children and young people run away from home. Many are tring to escape abuse or other painful experiences. On the streets, young people can face trouble and danger. The risks are frightening; in some places, it can be a matter of hours before a young person is picked up by a pimp, paedophile or drug addict. Runaways are in an extremely vulnerable position.

St Christopher's is there to help. We try to ensure that those children and young people who are at risk of homelessness don't spend their first night alone and at risk on the streets. We provide a safe place to stay and work with them so they can fulfil their potential.

Please help us to provide safety, warmth and a chance of a brighter future to more children.

Case study: donations in action

Last year, we were able to help Jon. After being repeatedly beaten by his stepfather and then thrown out of home, Jon had nowhere to go and ended up homeless. Then he came to one of our centres. “My first night on the streets was terrifying. I was too scared to sleep and too scared to stay in one place so I just kept walking and walking. I had a couple of pounds in my pocket and a few things in a bag. It was raining and I didn’t have my coat. By morning, I was cold, wet and exhausted.

When I realised that my stepdad wasn’t going to let me come home, I was so scared. I couldn’t face another night on the streets. Instead I ended up at St Christopher’s. The relief I felt when they gave me my own room and my own bed was overwhelming. I felt safe for the first time in a long time. I had my own keyworker too; together we worked out what my options were and what I wanted to do. She really helped. Now I live independently and I’m studying at college.”
