SHELTERBOX AMAZON RAFT RACE AND MACHU PICCHU CLIMB OCTOBER 2011.
Hi, thanks for visiting our page.
We are a team of 4 volunteers who have decided to compete in a 3 day - 112 mile raft race down part of the Amazon River. Not satisfied with that, we will then take on the Inca trail and climb Machu Picchu. ALL IN A WEEK!! Why are we doing this??? Because we wish to raise money for our very favourite charity ShelterBox!
The entire trip is self funded so rest assured EVERY penny raised will go straight to ShelterBox and the very deserving people they help.
Shelterbox is an international disaster relief charity that originated in Helston, Cornwall as part of the Rotary club's millennium project. To date they have delivered over 107000 boxes in over 90 countries around the world to the most needy. Be that as a result of natural disaster or manmade displacement.
WHAT IS A SHELTERBOX
It is a big green box that contains a 10 man tent, cooking equipment, blankets, ground mats, children’s packs, tool kits, water purification tablets, water containers and mosquito nets. Basically enough for a family of 10 to survive if their home was destroyed. Please have a look at the ShelterBox website for more information on how they started and where they are now. The cost of a ShelterBox, to include a response team volunteer (SRT) to deliver the aid, is £590
SO WHO'S ON THE TEAM
