Welcome To Andy & Rebecca's Coast to Coast Fundraising Page
Andy and Rebecca have now both finished our Gold D of E, so we started at the beginning of September to look for a challenge for the two of us to do together in the summer. We settled on walking the coast to coast. This is a 190 mile walk from the west side of England to the east finishing near Whitby, passing through the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and the Yorkshire Moors. We had started talking about it when something that hit home to both of us happened. This was the accident involving our very close friend Chris Parker. He was in a car crash that he was not expected to pull through. However defying all the odds Chris is still with us today and improving all the time. He was taken straight to Southampton Neurological ICU from the accident and after a stay of about a month moved to Bath following a short stay at Basingstoke Hospital.
We visited Chris throughout his time in Southampton and were amazed at the quality of the care that Chris was receiving. We also know his parents, sister and family are very grateful for the care as well as the support from family and friends over the period.
Chris is now in a specialist young people's ward in the RNHRD in Bath and we visit Chris as much as we can.
After talks with Mike, Alison and Emma we decided to do the coast to coast as a fundraising event for the two charities that support the wards that Chris has been on that not only are helping him recover but no doubt saved his life.
We are starting our walk on the 7th of August and aim to finish the 190 miles of walking about a fortnight later.
