The Chris Hills 10 in 10 is nearing it's conclusion with 7 marathons down and the finishing line in sight. I am running these races in memory of my friend Chris and any less than 10 marathons would not do the man's memory the justice he deserves.
It is now time for the big push at the end to get to the magical £5000 target and a great platform has already been set. It is still a way off, however, and it was time to make some calls, call in some favours and 'chat' about drunken promises made months ago....The Chris Hills 10 in 10 has now become a team event and in September a gallant band of four will tackle, and conquer, the Great North Run dressed as 6ft Tetris Blocks, armed with cash buckets to bring in hundreds of pounds to the total.
The team of hardened athletes (plus me) was alredy joined by my mother, 'Maggie T' to her pals, who was a big admirer of Chris and is running 5 marathons this year. She has been adding her sponsorship to my total along the way and has already raised around £300. Any online donations can be made on my page on her behalf.
On top of that, for one glorious afternoon on 18th Sept Nicky Potter, Jerrard Winstanley, Clark Gunn and myself will don costumes and we shall rotate and stride our way over the 13.1mile course. Nicky has already done some great work and brought in close to £500 sponsorship which not only pushed the total past half way but brought it hurtling towards the £3000 mark. Big well done and thanks a lot to him for the work already done.
Thanks also to Liz Hills, who has done sterling fundraising throughout, for coming to spectate on the latest marathon in Northumberland last month. She appeared at 3 different points on the course and was waiting with a pint and a hug at the end. The latter of those was a big mistake!!
